Collection: Elizabeth Geers Loftis

For almost 30 years, Elizabeth accompanied her Foreign Service husband
around the world, creating art in diverse and intriguing locales. But it was
finally the colors and images of southern Africa which inspired Elizabeth to do her most satisfying work. She found a never-ending supply of inspiration in the people, animals, textiles, baskets, and landscape. She swoons over pattern and unique color combinations. It was in Mozambique that she started her technique of drawing with oil pastels, then using an overlay of watercolor. The final product is meant to mimic block prints.

In May 2020, Elizabeth moved to Bozeman, Montana, and was over-
whelmed by the drama of the landscape. Her horse riders wrapped in blankets are derived from two locales: her last overseas posting in Lesotho in southern Africa; and the native peoples of the western United States. Mountains also feature prominently in her work, as do aspens, and the cheeky raven.

Elizabeth studied art at Colorado State University. She has taken art courses around the world, including New Zealand, Switzerland, France, and Virginia. Montana is providing an infinite number of ideas for future projects. Elizabeth happily lives on the side of the Bridger Mountains, overlooking the Gallatin Valley, with her husband Bob and their golden retriever, Diego.
