Collection: Susan Stevens
Susan Stevens considers herself largely self-taught, despite a lifelong connection to art. Her artistic journey took shape while teaching elementary art, an experience that inspired her to pursue art-making more seriously.
Drawing inspiration from the relationship between earth and sky, Stevens creates landscapes that capture emotion, memory, and atmosphere rather than specific locations. Her work reflects a deep appreciation for nature, conservation, and the wild places that have shaped her life.
Influenced by artists such as Andrew Wyeth, Russell Chatham, Wolf Kahn, and George Inness, Stevens explores the poetry and intimacy found within the natural world. Born in Pennsylvania, she earned a BA in Art History from Montana State University in 1986. After raising a family and teaching art in Mississippi, she returned to southwest Montana, where she continues to paint and participate in regional and national art organizations.
